Spirit of Christmas In Oriental
It’s finally here! The Spirit of Christmas begins tomorrow, December 7th. This wonderful two day event shows Oriental, NC at its finest.
The annual celebrtion will feature more musical venues than you can get to – from performances by the Pamlico Brass and the Pamlico Flutes – to the Pamlico Chorale and others. There will be caroling as well so tune up your vocal chords and come join us!
There will be treats at all local businesses. And we aren’t talking store bought cookies and cider! How about oysters on the half shell? Or perogies, chicken soup, chili, gourmet cookies, candies, cider and finger sandwiches? Local businesses open their doors and offer delectable goodies as a way to say ‘thank you’ to the village of Oriental for the past year. There are usually some good bargains to be had as well if you haven’t gotten your Christmas shopping done.
There are two spectacular parades – one on the water and one on the streets. Parade participants range from funny or just simply hilarious to sweet and adorable when the local live nativity children pass by. And the reflections on the water from the Lighted Flotilla boats as they steam into the harbor is a sight to see!
And in the early evening, just as dusk settles on our quaint little town, hundreds of volunteers light over 3,000 luminaries that line all the streets of Oriental. There’s a sudden hush as the candles are lit and villagers and visitors alike pause to appeciate the soft glow. The view from the waterfront is spectacular and our hotel in Oriental is right next to the wide waters of the Neuse River.
So come join us – come greet old friends and make new ones, come enjoy some lively music and some excellent entertainment. Feast on delicacies of all flavors as you pause to savor the true blessings of Christmas.
