Tarpon Tournament Begins Today in Oriental, NC

The Annual Tarpon Tournament opens today with an “Inshore Slam,” which is a catch and keep contest.  On Saturday, the catch and release segment begins as sport fishermen vie for cash prizes given for the largest tarpon caught in our local waters.

The fun filled two day event ends with a bar-b-q on the lawn at the Oriental Marina and Inn.  This is the 21st Tarpon Tournament and is one of the largest fundraisers for the Oriental Rotary Club.  Proceeds from the Tarpon Tournament go toward the organization’s scholarship fund.  The scholarship funds helps one deserving high school student realize their dream of going to college.
