Sunshine and Fun in Oriental, NC!
At last – after 10 days of constant cloud cover and rain – the sun is shining and the weekend is looking very promising! And the timing couldn’t be better! There’s lots going on this weekend in Oriental, NC so come on down and grab a room at our lower October rates and have some fun. The only problem you may encounter is trying to fit it all into one weekend!
The much lauded Annual Chili Cook Off, sponsored by the Old Theater, is taking place this Saturday downtown at the harbor. It’s lots of fun and yummy as well! This is the theater’s main fund raising event and tickets for the multitude of chili to be sampled are only $8 and available at the event. The historic Old Theater is host to musical events brought to you by the Pamlico Musical Society as well as countless plays and workshops. The event is not only worthy but a whole heck of a lot of fun!
There’s also an outdoor concert Saturday evening at The Silos Restaurant. Bring a lawn chair, have a beer or glass of wine, enjoy some downright delicious food and some good music provided by Saltwater Gold. The concert is free and the weather should be great.
The Pamlico Community Band presents its fall concert on Saturday night as well at the Old Theater on Broad Street. It’s a free concert (though donations are appreciated) and these talented musicians always present a fabulous performance!
Or, if you would rather be a little bit daring, join Dave Montgomery (in vintage costume) as he takes you on a spooky but fun ‘Ghost Walk’ through the streets of Old Oriental. Dave will scare you and entertain you at the same time with stories of the past – from murders to mysteries to lost pirate loot. The walk takes place on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30, starting from the Dinghy Dock on Water Street. Tickets are $10 and available at the event.
Also on offer this Sunday is the Annual Fashion Show presented by the Episcopal Church Women with fashions (be prepared to drool!) provided by Marsha’s Cottage. The clothes are guaranteed to be delightful with perfect accessories to go with the stunning outfits. Desserts, cheeses and beverages are served. Tickets are $12 and are available at Marsha’s Cottage and at Nautical Wheelers.
And, speaking of Nautical Wheelers, they’re having their monthly wine tasting on Saturday from 3 to 5 on Broad Street. The tasting is free and the selection of wines are always delicious.
And if you’d rather sample some home-grown wine, stop by the Neuse River Winery on Morris Creek Lane. The winery is open every Friday and Saturday for free tastings from 11 to 6. Glenn and Rolayne, your hosts and knowledgeable vintners, will be delighted to take you on a tour and explain their wine making process as you sample some of their delightful wines.
There’s so much to do in Oriental, NC that you may not be able to do it all. But that’s okay, maybe you would rather relax in one of our comfortable Adirondack chairs here on the lawn at River Neuse Suites and just gaze at the water and hope that our local pod of dolphins will go by.
